Assistance Available for North Country Families with Children
Utility Assistance Program Flyer
Thanks to generous support from the Champlain Hudson Power Express (CHPE) project, the Joint Council for Economic Opportunity of Clinton and Franklin Counties (JCEO) has a limited Utility Assistance Program available to provide support to low-income and ALICE households with children.
Recognizing the rising cost of living and the impact on households, especially those with children, this program was created to provide financial relief via one-time assistance with utility expenses to eligible households.
“At a time when we are seeing more households than ever seeking assistance for household expenses, this program will provide some relief to struggling families and their children,” said Nicole Laurin, Chief Executive Officer of the JCEO.
“We believe in the importance of working hand in hand with local organizations like JCEO to support families where it matters most. This program reflects our commitment to being a responsible and engaged community partner.” – Peter Rose, Senior Director of Stakeholder Relations, Hydro-Québec Energy Services U.S.
Eligible households must:
Have dependent children under 18 living in the home
Need assistance with utility costs (such as fuel, electric, and water)
Reside in Clinton or Franklin County, NY
Have already exhausted other assistance opportunities
Have a total household income that falls at or below the ALICE guideline.
To apply, families are encouraged to call JCEO’s City of Plattsburgh office at 518-561-6310. Eligibility is not guaranteed and must be determined through the application process. This program will be available until funds run out.
Ride to Thrive
Low-income individuals who are having trouble getting to and from work in the City of Plattsburgh have a new opportunity thanks to funding from Excellus BlueCross Blueshield. JCEO has limited funding for the new Ride to Thrive program to provide bicycles and safety gear to help participants get to and from work.
