Thanksgiving Basket Success
In the final days leading up to the Thanksgiving holiday, JCEO was inundated with calls from families in the far reaches of the North Country. Each year JCEO coordinates Thanksgiving Baskets that include turkeys and the ?fixings? donated through the ?Fund a Feast? program at our local markets. Families and seniors who would otherwise go without Thanksgiving due to financial hardship receive the meals with deep gratitude. More families ? new families and seniors who had never used any of JCEO?s services before ? called in need of help. The staff began a waitlist that grew each day anticipating a few donations of turkeys and some extra ?Fund a Feast? boxes would come though. JCEO put out a plea for the most difficult item to get: 100 Turkeys!! So many people answered that call for help that hundreds of turkeys flocked to our freezers and outreach centers. As a result of the community?s overwhelming response and generosity, JCEO is proud to say that every single family and senior on that continually growing waitlist received a Thanksgiving Basket. At a time of year when we see so many families working two and three jobs to heat their homes, put food on the table and pay for health care for their children, JCEO gives sincere thanks for your kindness and generosity. From the businesses who donated money, to the individuals who walked through the doors with turkeys in hand, please know that your compassion has been paid forward.
